THE PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICE Top of Page
Based in the Sidmouth Victoria Hospital, close to the BlackmoreHealth Centre. Contributing to an integrated health care service for the Sid valley community.
Open 9am-5pm Monday-Friday
Telephone 01395 577598 (direct line)
Service Objectives:
To provide physiotherapy for the people of Sidmouth and the Sid valley in the most appropriate environment that is in the hospital wards, in the home, in residential or nursing homes, in the Outpatients Clinic on the hospital site or at the Sidford satellite surgery.
The broad aim of physiotherapy is to promote, by physical methods , mobility and independence where mobility and independence have been or are likely to be impaired by a wide variety of disorders. We believe that patients derive maximum benefit when they are referred for physiotherapy by their GP. Referring doctors are advised to request a Physiotherapy Assessment rather than prescribing a particular form of treatment.
A blanket referral system is operated for inpatients.
A weekly antenatal clinic is operated in the Blackmore Health Centre.
In addition, physiotherapists made a major contribution to the work of the multidisciplinary 'Reablement Team', details of whose work are available under a separate heading.
STAFF
The Service is operated by five Chartered Physiotherapists and one Assistant Physiotherapist, comprising a staff complement of 3.8 (whole-time equivalent) Physiotherapists and 0.8 (wholetime equivalent) Assistant Physiotherapists.
All personnel are employed by the Exeter and East Devon Health Service Trust. Trust-wide service integration ensures professional training and monitoring of standards. Service statistics are published in the Trust's Annual Reports.
The Trust's Physiotherapy Director's office is located at the Trust's headquarters in Newcourt House, Old Rydon Lane, Exeter, telephone
